7 Things You Can Do For Welding Month

April is National Welding Month, the time of year to think about all the ways that welding holds the world together. From the smallest welds that keep your household goods in one piece, to the major welds that go into our cars, busses, tankers and bridges, welding is literally the glue of the modern world. Now it’s time to let the welders in your life know you appreciate them.

But Welding Month isn’t just about sitting down and thinking about welding’s wonders, or the industry patting itself on the back for a job well done. Welding Month is also about going out, getting involved, and moving the industry forward.

AWS will be doing its part at your local section meeting with our national presentation honoring Welding Month. We’ll also be offering information about career opportunities in welding. Here are seven important things that you can do in support of Welding Month:

1. Mentor a Future Welder
   Work with a school or company to foster the practical and life skills that young people will need to succeed in their careers.
2. Donate to a Charitable Organization
   Nonprofit charitable organizations like the AWS Foundation provide educational scholarships and research fellowships to deserving students.
3. Help Boy Scouts Earn the Welding Merit Badge
   Help your local Boy Scout troop acquire the knowledge, skills, materials, and tools required to earn the Welding Merit Badge.
4. Start or Support an Apprenticeship Program
   Apprenticeship programs are a cost effective way for individuals to acquire the specific skills that companies need to thrive in a competitive global market.
5. Tell Students About the Many Opportunities in Welding
   Sign up to talk about welding during your local school’s career day, or share your experience as a welding professional at a technical school or college.
6. Establish Academic-Business Partnerships
   Businesses can partner with local welding programs to provide students with thespecific knowledge and training necessary to obtain employment in local industries.
7. Support Welding Programs for Veterans
   Programs like Workshops for Warriors, Wounded Warriors, and Hiring Our Heroes, help our veterans get back into the workforce through welding and manufacturing.
