

SENIOR TECHNICIAN CRYOGENIC / SPECIALITY GAS SERVICES & INSTALLATION
Job Overview:
Plans, organizes, directs, and controls overall operations for the Cryogenics & Specialty Gas division to include bulk liquid and gaseous O2, N2, Ar, H2 & CO2 supply system installations, maintenance, materials management, and the daily activities of the team. Manages staff needs required to provide on-going product service, support, and repair of equipment throughout the region typically within Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Establishes, implements, and maintains administrative and technical procedures to provide responsive service to customers.
Summary of the Position:
- This position requires field installation, repair and maintenance of various cryogenic and specialty gas equipment at customer sites, and also requires management, training and development of Service Technicians.
- Install cryogenic vessels and associated pressure building equipment at Weldstar and customer specific locations, train Service Technicians and manage installations, including but not limited to bulk tanks, specialty gas manifolds, purifiers, switchover systems and associated equipment.
- Install and lead teams for cryogenic and specialty gas piping and related activities.
- Oversee and perform calibration of welding shielding gas blending systems at customer sites.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Working with safety as the top priority, the SENIOR TECHNICIAN will deliver, install and maintain all cryogenic pressure vessels in the Weldstar customer base and in-house.
- Perform preventative maintenance checks on a regularly scheduled basis, provide timely emergency service as required.
- Maintain inventory of parts and supplies.
- Must be able to perform required installation, service and maintenance and work as a successful team.
- Flexibility to work hours as needed to complete the installation, repair, service, as required including occasional nights and weekends.
- Ability to perform physical work, routinely lifting, pushing, pulling materials and equipment, ranging from a few pounds to 50 pounds with regularity. Some work from ladders, scaffolding and heights.
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, crouching, balancing.
- Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, and finger/hand dexterity to be able to use hand tools and ratcheting, working in tight spaces, elevated surfaces and working overhead.
- Ability to read and comprehend material safety data sheets.
- Must be able to safely use man / scissor lifts, and crane familiarization preferred.
- Ability to work independently and to be able to handle pressure to meet deadlines.
- Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors with varying temperature ranges and weather conditions.
- Must be able to operate in a drug & alcohol-free workplace.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform site survey assessments with company sales reps and Bulk Gas manager to analyze and explain project obstacles and recommend solutions per Weldstar Standard Operating Procedures, NFPA and OSHA regulations.
- Ability to explain tank/piping installations including processes and systems.
- Other duties as needed to successfully perform the job with success.
Qualifications & Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline, Trade School, or 10+ years of experience managing Bulk Field installations or related industry.
- 5+ years Field Operations experience.
- Additional certifications are a plus.
- Creative problem-solving skills, proven knowledge of piping systems, welding standards, and pressure testing.
- Working knowledge with low- and high-pressure piping, compressors; as well a proved ability to troubleshoot systems problems; perform regulator repairs, repair piping / liquid cryogenic leaks, etc. is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with peers, sales, customers, and coworkers.
