DID YOU KNOW…THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF WELDERS?

Why is there a shortage of welders in America? Answer: older welders are reaching retirement age and younger workers aren’t replacing them in sufficient numbers. According to one estimate, we’ll see a shortage of 400,000 welders by 2024 (that’s about the size of the entire welding job force in America as of 2019).

So, it’s always nice to see local school welding programs that are not only thriving, but are looking to expand due to the demand of students interested in a welding career. VALEES (The Valley Education for Employment System) has found a way to recognize the many talented welders in the local school programs – The Welding Student of the Year Competition. Weldstar has been an avid supporter of this competition, held annually at the Indian Valley Vocational Center.  This year’s event was held on March 17, 2022.

This year, approximately 40 student welders took part in the competition representing the Indian Valley Vocational Center, West Aurora High School, Oswego High School and Fox Valley Career Center.

Congratulations to all participants and finalists!
